Learning Through Play
Young children learn through exploration. Everything they do, from kicking a ball, building with blocks and painting, to singing in a group, and developing reading and writing skills is done in English and it is designed to help them understand their environment. This stage is essential and ensures children develop socially, mentally and physically.
Your child will confidently develop through active learning, play, and exploration of the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
Ages 3 – 5 | Foundation Stage | Foundation 1 and 2
Both years at Foundation Stage are based on a specialist Early Years Curriculum and made up of seven key developmental areas:

Foundation Stage Curriculum
Helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others; to form positive relationships and develop respect for others; to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings; to understand appropriate behaviour in groups; and to have confidence in their own abilities.
Our aim is for children to become valued members of the class and to develop social skills, such as turn-taking, sharing and independence.
Children are encouraged to communicate with one another and develop their vocabulary and their skills in talking, listening, and expressing themselves in a wide range of situations. Children are also encouraged to listen to the thoughts and ideas of others.
We provide opportunities for all children to explore words and text in a range of contexts, including through stories, role-play and drama.
Providing opportunities for young children to be active and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. We develop both gross and fine motor movements to support health, cognitive development and prepare children for writing. Children must be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy food choices.
We also support children in developing an understanding of how their bodies work and what they need to be healthy and safe.
Encouraging children to read and write, both through listening to others reading and beginning to read and write themselves. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials: books, poems, and other written materials, to ignite their interest.
We support children in developing a range of skills and concepts that enable them to successfully learn to read and write.
Providing children with opportunities to practise and improve their skills in counting, calculating simple additions and subtractions, and to describe shapes, spaces, and measures.
This area of learning provides opportunities for children to develop their understanding of number, measurement, pattern, shape, and space.
We provide an environment in which children can explore, enjoy, and learn about numbers and shapes.
Guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment. This area of the curriculum includes a focus on early Science discovery.
By engaging with the world around them, children learn more about people, communities, and the world in which they live. Children also explore technology and how this impacts their everyday lives.
Supporting children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.
We provide opportunities to experiment with different resources and a range of activities which inspire their creativity.
