Welcome Message from the Principal
Welcome to BISU
My name is David Cooksey, and it is my privilege to be the Principal of the British International School of Uppsala. The school offers an ‘Internationally British’ education to families grounded in the principles and philosophy of our parent organisation, STEAM Education.
STEAM Education and BISU offer a comprehensive and challenging international education that fosters informed and engaged local, regional, and global citizenship. We inspire all members of our community to be life-long learners who contribute positively to a diverse and changing world.
Each student is an individual whose educational experience in the school is tailored to their own strengths and weaknesses, needs, and wants. Our teachers undertake personal and professional development to ensure that they are aware of the very latest developments in pedagogy and the science of learning, bringing their knowledge into the BISU classrooms for the benefit of our students.
BISU focuses not only on academics, but the social and physical development of our students. Our extra-curricular activities will reflect the interests of our students and staff, and we will use our physical, social, and cultural environment to our very best advantage.
Our school follows the Cambridge Assessment International Education programme, which develops students who are confident working with ideas, responsible for themselves, and responsive to and respectful of others. We foster students’ ability to learn by encouraging reflective learning and innovation in the classroom. Our goal is to create and inspire students who are equipped for new and future challenges and engaged intellectually and socially in order to make a difference. The school is actively seeking recognition by the International Baccalaureate Organisation and once approved, will offer the Diploma programme to our most senior students. These qualifications will allow access to the very best Universities around the world for BISU graduates.
Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most difficult and important decisions you will make as a parent and my staff and I are ready to support you in making that decision. I invite you to make an appointment to meet with me or other members of staff at BISU and STEAM Education to discuss the educational needs of your child. I am confident that BISU can assist you in making this decision. I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you and your family to the BISU community.
